Cabinet approves India joining the International Energy Agency Ocean Energy Systems

Polluting industries fix online monitors

Major polluting industries in the city have installed online pollution monitoring systems on the directions of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The system, called continuous stack emission monitoring systems (CSEMS), enables the board to keep tabs on polluting units on a real-time basis without actually visiting the industries. Until now at least a dozen paper and sugar industries, and distilleries, have installed the systems in their industries.

Indian rooftop solar programme to get $1.5 billion foreign aid

The World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the New Development Bank formed by the BRICS nations are providing loans to boost India’s rooftop solar programme. “We are getting $500 million (Rs 3,345 crore) from each of them to fund rooftop solar projects, mostly in the industrial and commercial sector,” said Upendra Tripathy, secretary at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Cabinet likely to approve policy for producing more compost from municipal garbage

In its bid to push production of compost from municipal solid waste, the Cabinet on Wednesday is likely to approve the proposal to provide subsidy to cities that will take up this task vigorously. As per the proposal, the fertilizer ministry will provide Rs 1,500 subsidy to city administration and municipal bodies for selling every tonne of such compost.

The proposal also includes making it mandatory for the urea marketing companies to sell compost from municipal waste. Sources said the norm is likely to mandate selling of 3-4 bags of compost for every 6-7 bags of urea.
