Suzlon's Gujarat wind mill achieves 35% plant load factor

Wind turbine maker, the Suzlon group today said its S97-HT DFIG 2.1-MW wind turbine has achieved a 35 per cent plant load factor over the last 12 months since its launch in November 2014.

The prototype was commissioned on June 9, 2014, at Nani Ber district of Kutch, Gujarat, the company said in a release.

The wind turbine has received "encouraging response" from customers across segments and reflects in the 350 MW of orders received.

Denmark's Cowi gets offshore wind job in India

Danish engineering firm Cowi Inc said Monday it has won a contract to design an offshore wind farm of about 50 MW off the coast of Gujarat in northwestern India.

The size of the demonstration project, which is supported by the European Commission, has not yet been determined.

“India has the capacity and the will needed to develop and establish an offshore wind industry. We're planning to design a farm generating somewhere in the range of 50 megawatt,” said Marc Normann, Cowi’s market director of industry and energy.

Curb noise pollution: Chhattisgarh environment department

Taking serious note of increasing noise pollution in state and its adverse effects Chhattisgarh government instructed all district collectors to establish complaint's cell for registration of complaints against violators.

As a measure to curb noise pollution on roads and public places and putting noise producing instruments under check, Aman Kumar Singh, principal secretary, housing and environment department issued a circular to all district collectors.

Green nanotech to power cars: IIT-M researchers show how

Infosys campus in Hyderabad claims to meet 100% electricity needs from renewables

IT firm Infosys on Monday announced the launch of its solar PV power plant of 6.6 MW capacity at its Pocharam campus in Telangana.

With this launch, combined with the existing 0.6 MW capacity rooftop solar plant, the Infosys campus in Pocharam will be one of the first corporate campuses in India that will be run completely by renewable energy. The plant, with a total capacity of 7.2 MW, has been successfully synchronized with the grid and is expected to generate 12 million kWh per annum. This initiative is expected to reduce the company’s CO2 emissions by 9,200 tons.

MSEDCL to distribute of LED bulbs from January in Kolhapur circle

The MSEDCL will start distributing seven crore LED bulbs in the state through its section offices from January onwards.

"The Kolhapur zone will start the programme from January. It has to be completed within a month," said Phulsingh Rathod, PRO, Kolhapur circle, MSEDCL said. The zone includes Kolhapur and Sangli districts.

"We have started receiving the LED bulbs and have started sending them to our section offices. We want to be ready by January first week so that we can start its distribution immediately," he said.

5 new CNG pumps to relieve switch worries

Huda on Thursday allotted land for five new CNG stations in the city, a day after auto drivers had expressed concerns over the current infrastructure being able to meet the additional demand for CNG created by the order to stop registration of diesel vehicles in Delhi and NCR.

The new gas stations are likely to be operational by March, taking the total count of CNG stations in Gurgaon to 12. Currently, there are over 50,000 vehicles running on CNG in Gurgaon, including buses, autos, taxis and private cars, and some 22,000 autos that run on diesel will now have to switch to CNG.... Soon, hi-tech machines to sweep city roads clean

The civic administration, which has been reeling under staff crunch, will procure sweeping machines to keep city roads clean.

The state finance commission has granted Rs 7 crore to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) to address its concerns related to solid waste management. Waste from 3 Chennai slaughterhouses to generate power

City residents could soon be free from the sight and stench of discarded animal waste. After a rap from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) bench over inefficient disposal of such waste, the corporation has decided to set up bio-methanation plants to treat waste from three slaughterhouses in the city top generate power and organic manure . Every day, abattoirs in Villivakkam and Saidapet generate half a tonne of waste each, while the one at Perambur generates 8 tonnes, said a senior corporation official. Scheme for solar pump sets on subsidy for farmers

The government of Kerala in collaboration with the government of India is offering solar pump sets on subsidy basis for farmers in the State.

A press note issued here said 1,380 pumps of 3HP capacity would be on offer on subsidy basis.

The Central and State subsidies would amount to 30 to 35 per cent of the total cost of a pump. As the pump operates directly from the solar panel, there is no need to install a battery. A farmer who installs the pump would be able to make good his investment in three to four years, the press note said.

Policy gap stops investors from expanding power grids in rural India

Lack of clarity on policy governing privately-owned renewable energy-based mini-grids is preventing investors from expanding their network in the hinterlands of north India.

Husk Power Systems, which was formed in 2007 and operates over 70 mini-grids in several districts of Bihar, is one such company that is unsure about its investment if the state government decides to install centralised grids in the areas of its operations. Several textile processing units in Tamil Nadu running without permission

In a review meeting to discuss the measures for establishing Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) for the textile processing units in Erode, Salem, Namakkal, and Karur districts, the Minister for Handloom and Textiles, S. Gokula Indira informed that out of the 2,090 textile processing units, 1,205 are running with the consent from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), while 885 of them are running without the permission.

Bengaluru airport to go in for solar power

The Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB), will soon go solar as a part of its sustainability drive by reduction of electricity consumption.

Tripura starts generating 101 MW electricity

Triumphing over 13 years of hurdles, northeast India’s third biggest gas based-power project in Tripura has begun generating 101 MW electricity, ensuring the region’s self-reliance in energy.
