India suggests insertion of key points on finance and tech transfer in the Paris draft text

Making its suggestions to the latest draft text of the Paris climate agreement, India on Monday pitched for inserting specific paragraph on the issue of finance and transfer of technology in the text.

India wants the developing countries must be provided with cutting-edge environment friendly technology free of cost where the intellectual property rights (IPRs) can be taken care of by the finance from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Govt seeks views on new guidelines for solar projects

Government has sought views of developers and other stakeholders on the proposed amendment to the guidelines for setting up of over 2,000 MW grid-connected solar power projects with viability gap funding (VGF).

These projects are being set up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).

Pune's Pimpri Chinchwad to get LED streetlights

Over 8,000 street lights in Pimpri Chinchwad, which have sodium vapour lamps, will be replaced with LED lights.

Pravin Tupe, joint city engineer, PCMC said that prices of LED street lights have gone down which is why the civic body is installing more of them. Of the total 76,798 street lights in the city, PCMC has already installed 16,554 in the city till now, he said. The total expenditure of the project is around Rs 6.49 crore.

Cricket stadium in Rajkot to be solar powered

The Governing body of Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has announced that Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot has become the second cricket Stadium in the country to have Installed 50 kWp solar rooftop system. Saurashtra Cricket Association has also plans to put up additional capacity in the near future to pioneer green power generation.

NGT clears NMC’s solid waste project

National Green Tribunal (NGT), western zone bench, has cleared Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC's) municipal solid waste (MSW) to electricity project, thereby paving the way for its execution. NMC had earlier appointed Hanjer, which failed to execute it properly. On directives of NGT, it then appointed Essel Infrastructure, whose rates were high. India's non-hydro renewables to reach 126 GW by 2025

India’s installed non-hydro renewable energy capacity is expected to more than triple to an estimated 125.9 GW by 2025 from 33.1 GW in 2014, shows a new report from research and consulting firm GlobalData.

“India has significant solar power potential, due to its geographical location near the equator, and the country has outlined clear plans for future energy production from this source,” said Chiradeep Chatterjee, GlobalData’s senior analyst covering power.

Sany group, Andhra sign MoU; to invest Rs 4,000-cr in wind projects

China's construction equipment manufacturer Sany Group today said that it has entered into an MoU with Andhra Pradesh government for investment of USD 600 million (Rs 4,000) crore to set up wind power projects.

"Sany Group... today signed an MoU with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu for the investment of Rs 4,000 crore for the period 2016-2020 to establish wind power projects," the company said in statement.

ABB wins INR 141 crore order to strengthen power grid in India

ABB has announced that it has won orders worth INR 141 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) to supply 765 kilovolt (kV) ultrahigh voltage power transformers for substations in the northern states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Three of these ultra-high voltage transformers will be installed at the Meerut substation in the north west of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, while 14 transformers will be installed in new substations being constructed in Uttarakhand. Suzlon Group has announced that it has completed the commissioning of 50.40 MW wind power turnkey project for Ostro Energy Pvt Ltd. (owned by Actis). The project will provide electricity to over 28,000 homes and curb ~0.10 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Bio-waste plant to be set up by railways

In attempt to recycle biodegradable waste ge-nerated by Indian Rai-lways’ largest residential colony, rail authorities in the national capital are setting up a bio-waste processing plant as a pilot project. Textile mills opt for solar rooftops as cost goes down

With the cost of solar photovoltaic units and accessories coming down significantly, textile mills in the region are increasingly opting for solar rooftop panels in their units.

NGT lifts stay on sand mining in Madhya Pradesh

Principal bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi has lifted stay on sand mining in Madhya Pradesh. Previously, on July 20, NGT central zonal bench, Bhopal imposed a stay on river-bed sand mining in the state till October 31.

However, NGT has not lifted stay on 61 mining leases where state environment impact assessment authority (SEIAA) had already imposed prohibition on mining of sand during monsoon period of July 1 to October 31, as a condition of their environmental clearance (EC).

Green Climate Fund directors warn it faces staffing crisis

The UN’s flagship Green Climate Fund says it is “severely understaffed” because its salaries aren’t attractive and few want to move to its South Korean HQ in Songdo.

Its directors say it needs more resources and 72 new full-time staff by 2018 to operate effectively.

Some posts have been vacant for two years says the GCF, which had a total approved administrative budget for 2015 of $19,566,866. $11.21 million is set aside for salaries and consultants.

As a result it has employed 62 temporary staff, ballooning its consultancy costs by 185%.

Wind power capacity in China will touch 120 gigawatts by the end of 2015.

Zhu Ming, deputy director of the National Energy Administration (NEA)’s new and renewable energy department, said wind power capacity has reached 105 gigawatts by the end of June this year, reported Xinhua.
