Oil companies and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) are collaborating to make Pune India’s first carbon-free city by 2040, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan has said.

Here to launch the pilot of a slew of new initiatives for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and piped natural gas users, he said, both the Expressway as well as the old road (NH4) connecting Pune and Mumbai were being pitched as the country’s first green corridor.

India Likely to Add 10.8 GW Solar Power Capacity In 2016–2017

India may have operational solar power capacity of close to 20 GW by March 2017 if projects under the states’ and central solar power policies go ahead as per the schedule.

An estimated 10.8 GW capacity is expected to be added between April 2016 and March 2017, a recently issued document by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) states. India Adds 500 MW Solar Power Capacity In 6 Months

The rate at which solar power plants in India are coming online seems attractive enough for investors to continue to pour in money into the sector.

Indian Government Estimates 4.3 GW Solar Power Installation In 2015-16

The Indian government has posted the most optimistic estimates of solar power capacity addition for the financial year 2015–16. The Indian government expects the states to take the lead in capacity addition probably for the first time since the launch of the National Solar Mission in 2009.

India approves renewable energy deal with Mozambique

The union cabinet on Wednesday approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between India and Mozambique in August this year to improve bilateral cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy.

The MoU was signed between the ministry of new and renewable energy and the ministry of mineral resources and energy of Mozambique government here on August 5 during the visit of Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi to India.

Paris Climate Talks: Europe to vote for a legally binding protocol tomo

Ahead of the Paris Climate Talks to be held in December, the European Parliament will vote on its roadmap for emission and renewable energy usage.

The MEPs have demanded the 2015 Protocol be legally binding with the concrete targets of:

  • A 40 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
  • A binding renewable energy target of 30 percent of total energy consumption by 2030

Inox Wind bags 3rd project from Tata Power Renewable Energy

Inox Wind, a wind energy solutions provider, has bagged an order for a 50 MW wind power project at Lahori, Madhya Pradesh, from Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL).

The order is TPREL’s third project with Inox Wind after two previous orders of 172 MW.

Segregate homewaste to have MCG collect it

Residents have been told to segregate wet and dry waste at their homes if they want their garbage picked up from their doorstep by the MCG. The MCG is set to start door-to-door waste collection for the whole city in another six months, and people will have to follow certain basic practices to ensure their waste is collected and treated, MCG commissioner Vikas Gupta said.

The MCG will bring colour-coded bins - green for wet waste and blue for dry waste - and residents will be required to drop their garbage accordingly.

Stations to refill CNG on Pune-Mumbai eway, highway

Minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan said CNG refilling stations would be opened on the Pune-Mumbai expressway and the Pune-Mumbai old highway to encourage use of CNG vehicles.

The minister was in the city for launching various initiatives of the Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) and oil marketing companies. Pradhan also talked about increasing the city's domestic PNG connections to 50,000 from the present 21,000.

BMC starts recycling of solid waste at Kanjurmarg facility to produce natural gas

BMC’s solid waste management department’s various units deal with 9,500 metric tonnes of solid waste daily in the city. Out of this, 3,000 metric tonnes is processed at the Kanjurmarg facility. October 6 onwards, bio-reactors will employ anaerobic decomposition of this waste to produce natural gas. The initiative is being supported by the central and state governments. BMC will be assisted by an IIT Mumbai team on this initiative.

Metro Rail to tap solar energy: Chennai

 Three months after the launch of the Chennai Metro Rail service between Koyambedu and Alandur, officials are now looking at the possibility of tapping solar energy.

According to officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), they are planning to install solar power panels either in the shed or the depot in Koyambedu. “We are yet to take a call on this. We estimate it would generate about 1000 kW power generation,” says an official.

The depot at Koyambedu, built at a cost of Rs. 198 crore, sprawls over 26 hectares.

Delhi Metro to replace lamps with LED lights

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to replace all the lamps at its stations, depots, and residential complexes with LED lights. The transition is expected to reduce the metro’s energy consumption by at least 40 per cent.

Majority of India's 13 GW solar projects to wrap up by early 2017

India currently has 13 GW of solar projects in progress, most of which are to be hooked to the grid by end-2016 or the start of 2017, according to estimates by consultancy firm Bridge To India.

The calculations include both photovoltaic (PV) schemes with secured power purchase agreements (PPA) and projects for which tenders have already been signed. In other words, the country may triple its installed solar capacity in just one year, putting it among the leaders on the global market.
