Brazil Doubles Its Solar PV Target To 7 GW By 2024

In December 2014, the Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy announced a goal to deploy 3.5 GW of solar PV by 2023.  Now, the Ministry has moved forward to almost double the previous “relatively conservative” target and will now be chasing a capacity of 7 GW by 2024 (Plano Decenal de Expansão de Energia – PDE 2024).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Barack Obama and France and Britain's leaders on Monday, and called for a climate change agenda from upcoming global talks in Paris that helps developing countries with access to finance and technology.

Govt aims to tap 200MW solar power: Maharashtra

Energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has announced the plan of action for increasing generation of renewable energy in the state. The government aims to generate 200MW through roof top solar panels. MSEDCL's project to reduce wastage of electrical energy is going on full steam ahead with over 2.5 lakh LED bulbs being distributed in the district alone. The target for the district is 36 lakh and the state is 10 crore.

Cycle rickshaws have become a rare sight now. Those yearning for an “open-air ride” in a rickshaw can soon have their longing fulfilled. Lohia Auto Industries have launched electric rickshaws in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh. Called Humrahi and priced at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the e-rickshaw can be used for both ferrying passengers and carrying cargo. It can accommodate four passengers. The e-rickshaw takes 10 hours for full recharge and has a driving range of around 70 km.

DMC offices to rely entirely on solar power soon

Showing the way in terms of relying on green energy, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation is soon set to run completely on solar power.

The move, which is in line with the Centre's rules and will help bring Doon under solar cities of India, will make it the first government department of Dehradun to run on solar power, DMC mayor Vinod Chamoli said.

Asian Development Bank To Double Climate Finance To $6 Billion A Year By 2020

The Asian Development Bank will significantly increase lending support for projects aimed at climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that it would increase annual climate finance lending to $6 billion by 2020, from its current $3 billion annually. The bank also aims to increase climate-linked lending to represent 30% of the overall financing.

OPIC Lends $20 Million For Rooftop Solar Power Systems In India

The Overseas Private Investment Corporation has backed the development of rooftop solar PV systems in India.

SAM Consultant, a US-based finance firm and a facilitator of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) in India, has lent $20 million to Azure Sunlight, which will be used for the implementation of 19 MW of rooftop solar PV projects.

Coke, Walmart and others kick off $100m recycling fund with three new projects

A consortium of 10 of the US’s largest corporations – including Walmart, Coca-Cola and Johnson & Johnson – has announced three new projects designed to boost dismal recycling rates in the US.

Just 34% of waste in the US is recycled, placing it well behind other developed countries such as Switzerland, which recycles more than 50% of its waste. Tata Power participates in National DELP of LED Bulbs for its consumers in Mumbai

Tata Power has announced that the Company as a facilitator has participated inthe Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) of LED Bulbs for its residential consumers in the Mumbai Distribution Area. In line with its ambitious target of saving 21.37 Million units of energy annually in the domestic sector, this MERC-approved programmewill encourage energy efficiency through the use of LED technology. Swachh Bharat: govt to rank public places on sanitation

With an aim to re-energise the Swachh Bharat Mission, the government plans to take up a campaign at different levels from the ward to the State till March next year, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said.

As part of the campaign, public areas such as railway stations, airports, shipyards, hospitals, schools and colleges and tourist destinations will be ranked based on the degree of sanitation, the statement said.

Delhi spared an electricity tariff hike

Delhi has been spared an increase in electricity rates by the regulator. The tariff for the group housing societies has also been reduced by Rs.1 to Rs.6 per kWh. The new prices apply from 1 October.

The tariff levels for the year to March will remain unchanged primarily because the regulator said no to the revenue increase sought by the distribution firms—BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDPL).
