Kashmir's main glacier "melting at alarming speed"

SRINAGAR, India, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Indian Kashmir's biggest glacier, which feeds the region's main river, is melting faster than other Himalayas glaciers, threatening the water supply of tens of thousands of people, a new report warned on Monday.

Experts say rising temperatures are rapidly shrinking Himalayan glaciers, underscoring the effects of climate change that has caused temperatures in the mountainous region to rise by about 1.1 degrees Celsius in the past 100 years.

IEA Calls for Fast Action on Carbon Storage in Developing World

Developing countries need more than 2,000 carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) plants by midcentury to stave off catastrophic global warming, an International Energy Agency report out today will say.

The report, set to be released at the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum in London, calls for 100 large-scale, fully deployed CCS plants around the world in the next decade and 3,400 by 2050.
