Labeled Green Bonds Issuance Crosses $40 Billion In 2015

The global labeled green bonds market has crossed a grand milestone in terms of total issuance this year.

A total of $40 billion worth of labeled green bonds were issued in 2015. According to the Climate Bonds Initiative, the milestone was achieved in December, and the total issuance last year was $36.59 billion. As of the 23rd of December, the total issuance for 2015 stood at $41.8 billion.

PM Modi Flags off the First Electric Bus in India

The Prime Minister presented the keys of the first retrofitted bus to Hon'ble Speaker Smt Sumitra Mahajan who was also present on the occasion. "There is a challenge before the mankind to find a solution to this problem", Modi said. US, France and India have together taken this initiative.

A standard electric bus uses about one unit of electricity for one kilometer, which is much cheaper than diesel. Such buses would "not only significantly contribute in minimising pollution, but would encourage younger generation to come into research and making of batteries".

Sanjeev Jaiswal gives green signal for bio-CNG plant in Thane

With these projects in place, wet waste generated at hotels, vegetable markets and other places will be taken care of. City-based NGO Samarth Bharat Vyas Peeth has been asked to set-up the first such plant at Kopri east on a contract of 10 years.

Jaiswal said, "Initially, the plant with a capacity of 10 metric tonnes will be functional at Kopri east. Once the set-up is ready, the NGO will provide one tonne electricity for free to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital for a year."

KMC eyes pvt hands to manage waste

The civic body's move to hire 350 private sanitary workers for the collection, segregation and transportation of garbage in the city has not gone down well with the social activists, who are crying foul over the attempts to privatise the waste management system.

The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to outsource the work of garbage collection and segregation to a private agency, which would have to provide 350 workers for the project.

Delhi Metro signs MoU with Solar Energy Corporation of India

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will now jointly collaborate on taking up an ‘off site’ solar power project, to maximise the use of renewable energy, mitigate the impact of regular increase in grid tariffs and to reduce the carbon footprint.

A fresh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with this objective was signed today in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh and other senior officials from DMRC and SECI.

SunEdison to invest $2 billion in solar, looks for Indian partner

In a big boost to the government’s Make in India initiative, US-based renewables major SunEdison Inc is looking to invest up to $2 billion (Rs 13,200 crore) in the next one year in a polysilicon manufacturing facility in India.

Polysilicon is used as feedstock material in most solar energy applications.

Azure Power bags 100 MW solar project from NTPC

Azure Power has announced it has won 100 MW solar power capacity projects in Andhra Pradesh, which were recently put up for auction by NTPC Limited under the National Solar Mission.

The projects will be built in the Andhra Pradesh solar park, where NTPC has auctioned a total capacity of 1000 MW of solar power projects. Although ten companies participated in the online reverse auction process, Azure Power secured 100 MW of the total 150 MW capacity auctioned. Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) has proposed revision of the guidelines issued in the year 2012, in compliance to the directions of various orders of Hon’ble National Green Tribunal, which would bring the existing industries/Units under the ambit of ground water guidelines. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has notified the revised standards for coal-based Thermal Power Plants in the country, with the primary aim of minimising pollution. These standards are proposed to be implemented in a phased manner. Thermal power plants are categorised into 3 categories, namely those:- (i) Installed before 31st December, 2003 (ii) Installed after 2003 upto 31st December, 2016 and (iii) Installed after 31st December, 2016.

Ethanol blending targets scaled up from 5% to 10% to improve the liquidity position of sugar mills

Under Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP), the Central Government has scaled up blending targets from 5% to 10% to promote blending of ethanol with petrol and its use as alternative fuel. This information was given by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is making progress towards its goal to go 100% solar as far as power procurement is concerned.

Vikram, Tata and Jakson win 260MW of EPC contracts in Rajasthan

Three separate developers have won 260MW of capacity on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis for a solar park in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

India-based module manufacturer Vikram Solar won 2x65MW projects at INR 56.28 million/MW.

Meanwhile EPC firm Jakson won 65MW capacity at INR 56.34 million/MW and Tata Power won another 65MW capacity at INR 56.60 million/MW.

The Government of India is considering supporting polysilicon, ingot and wafer production in India as part of prime minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ programme, that was launched last year.

There are currently no polysilicon, Ingot and wafer manufacturing facilities in India. Furthermore there are only 1,386MW of cell manufacturing capacity and 2,756MW of module capacity.

50,000 solar lanterns for non-electrified villages in Odisha

Central PSU Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) will provide 50,000 solar lanterns to families residing in non-electrified villages of the state, official sources said.

Surendra Pradhan, chief project manager, REC, said Rs 10 crore would be spent on the initiative as part of the corporate social responsibility of REC.

Pradhan said around 3000 lanterns were already distributed in some villages while the rest would be done soon.
