Developing Countries Attracted Record $126 Billion In Clean Energy Investment In 2014

A new report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance has found that developing nations attracted a record $126 billion in clean energy investment in 2014.

Clean energy investment of $126 billion represents an increase of $35.5 billion, or 39%, on 2013 clean energy investment levels.

PNG supply, CNG stations for Smart Cities suggested

Union urban development ministry on Saturday asked the states and urban local bodies (ULB) to provide for piped natural gas (PNG) supply and compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in the cities selected for development as Smart Cities.

They were also asked to ensure convergence of various schemes of the Central government aimed at enhancing energy supply and related infrastructure in the Smart City Plans under preparation. Karnataka state government signed an MoU on Monday with Netherlands' government for a waste to energy technology which will be utilised to dispose Bengaluru filth.

With an investment of Rs 470 crore, the waste to energy project will be utilised to dispose 600 metric tonnes of garbage generated in the city.

At a meeting between Netherlands' ambassador in India, Alphonsus Stoelinga, and chief minister Siddaramaiah, the waste to energy project was finalised.

Reliance Group to develop 6000 MW solar park in Rajasthan

Billionaire Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group will develop a 6,000 megawatt Solar Power Park in Rajasthan, a plan that has potential to attract an investment of Rs 60,000 crore.

Fund to help small units adopt clean tech

The government has launched a fund to support industry, especially the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), in the acquisition and development of clean, green and energy efficient technologies.

The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) launched the fund – called the Technology Acquisition and Development Fund (TADF) – under the National Manufacturing Policy being implemented by it.

Churchgate station to soon get solar power

The Western Railway will go green and instal a 100 KWP solar power system on the rooftop of its Churchgate station building. This will generate cheaper, reliable power for most of the departments in the WR headquarters located in the building.

Wind turbine maker Gamesa plans solar investment in India

Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa is seeing booming sales in emerging markets, expects double-digit sales growth through 2017 and plans investments in solar and off-grid power generation in India, its chairman said.

In India, where Gamesa started activities only five to six years ago, it expects turbine sales adding up to 900 MW this year, and in Brazil, where the company had no business four years ago, it expects sales of 650 MW this year.

India's rooftop solar capacity at 525 MW; Tamil Nadu leads the way: Report

India's rooftop solar capacity has seen a 66 per cent growth over the last year to 525 MW, with Tamil Nadu outperforming other states, says a report by consultancy firm Bridge to India.

According to India Solar Rooftop Map released today, over the past 12 months India's installed solar capacity is almost equivalent to what the country had added in the past three years combined.

It said that India rooftop solar industry has witnessed a 66 per cent growth over the last year despite lack of specific rooftop initiatives, which are enjoyed by the utility scale solar segment.

Scientists create cheaper, high performing LED

Researchers at Florida State University have developed a new type of light-emitting diode, or LED that could lead to cheaper, brighter and mass produced lights and displays in the future.

Energy-saving LED lighting is already sold in stores, but widespread adoption has been slow because of the costs associated with the material and the quality.
