$1 bn private equity fund planned renewable energy

Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said the government plans to set up a $1 billion private equity fund for the renewable energy sector that would be initially seeded by state-run companies.

"We are planning a $1 bn private equity fund for renewable energy sector; initially seeded by Govt. companies.

"Seek to collect $4 bn/year in 3-4 years for clean energy fund.

"Seek long tenor, low-cost overseas debt for clean energy fund," he said in a series of tweets.

Solar RECs demand in India reaches new high at nearly 88k

Total of 87,767 solar renewable energy certificates (solar RECs) were sold in India in November, marking a 533.7% jump on October and a new monthly record.

In addition, 231,545 non-solar RECs were redeemed, or 9.5% more than in the previous month, the REC registry shows.

Under the REC scheme, renewable power producers in India receive credits for the power they produce if they do not take advantage of other incentives. The RECs are traded on the last Wednesday of each month.

India adds 2,311 MW renewable generation capacity in 7 months

India has added 2,311.88 MW of grid-connected power generation capacity from renewable energy sources like solar and wind till October of this financial year, against the full fiscal’s target of 4,460 MW, an official statement said on Thursday.

A total of 827.22 MW of solar power generation capacity was added in this period, taking the cumulative electricity generation capacity from the source to 4,579.24 MW, said the new and renewable energy ministry statement.

IDBI Bank raises Rs2,310 crore via green bonds

IDBI Bank Ltd on Thursday said it has raised $350 million (about Rs.2,310 crore) from green bonds to fund clean energy projects. The issue was made under the $5 billion medium term note (MTN) programme listed on Singapore Stock Exchange, IDBI Bank said in a statement.

With this, IDBI has become the first state-owned commercial bank to raise $350 million by selling green bonds. The proceeds will be used for refinancing of clean energy projects assisted by the bank which include wind energy, solar energy etc., it said. The funds raised... Read more..

Suzlon bags maiden order from Hero Future Energies for 31.50 MW wind power project

Suzlon Group has announced that it has won its maiden order from Hero Future Energies, an Independent Power Producer (IPP) company, for 31.50 MW of wind power project. Suzlon will install its S97 suite of WTGs (wind turbine generators) with 120m hub height and rated capacity of 2.1 MW each at Zaheerabad site in Medak district, Telangana on supply and installation basis. IDBI Bank to issue five-year green bonds today

State-owned lender IDBI Bank will issue five-year green bonds to overseas investors, the proceeds of which will be used to fund clean energy projects, said the bank’s chief financial officer N.S. Venkatesh on Monday.

The bank has already lent $300 million to such projects and is in talks with several others to lend $2 billion over the next 12-15 months.

The issue is “benchmark-sized” which enables the issuer to raise at least $350 million, said a bond sale arranger familiar with the issue.

Lanco to invest Rs2,300 crore for solar panel factory in India

Indian power and construction company Lanco Infratech Ltd will invest Rs.2,300 crore to build a solar manufacturing facility by January 2017 in Chhattisgarh.

Lanco’s factory will be built on 100 acres of the 250-acre special economic zone in the Rajnandgaon district. It will produce 1,800 tonnes a year of solar-grade polysilicon, 100 megawatts of ingots and wafers, 150 megawatts of modules and 100 megawatts of cells, Lanco Solar president Raj Kumar Roy said in an interview.
