Paris climate meet reaches draft deal, India’s concerns visible

Less than a week into the crucial global climate change conference here, some 196 participating countries on Saturday reached a draft deal which seeks to address one of India’s main demands that rich nations must extend emerging economies both funding and technology so that their clean and green development goals do not entail unfair costs or burden.

India needs to create green buildings, says expert

There is an urgent need for India to make energy efficient buildings by jumping to the latest technology, creating awareness among people and teaching building physics to next generation architects, says an expert in energy simulation.

Dow Collaboration Produces Sustainable Packaging

Dow Chemical’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business has collaborated with Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and Accredo Packaging to produce Seventh Generation’s first recyclable dishwasher pods packaging.

Dow developed the resins for the recyclable polyethylene stand-up pouch to help ensure the package’s stiffness, toughness and sealability. Accredo Packaging converts these materials into pouches.

The new packaging features SPC’s How2Recycle label. The pouches can be recycled at more than 18,000 store drop-off locations throughout North America.

China to become largest electric car market in the world

Electric car sales in China are expected to reach 220,000 to 250,000 this year, surpassing the US to rank first worldwide, the China Association of Automobile Manufactures (CAAM) has forecast.
Worldwide electric cars sales will hit 600,000 and the figure for the US market is estimated to be 180,000, said Xu Yanhua, deputy secretary-general of CAAM.

Top fashion CEOs fear rising costs from climate change

The chief executives of seven top clothing companies, including Hennes & Mauritz Gap and Adidas, are calling on governments to agree a strong climate change deal, saying they fear global warming will drive up their costs.

Almost 200 nations are meeting in Paris until Dec. 11, trying to work out a deal to limit a rise in temperatures blamed on increasing emissions of greenhouse gases.

Solar Power Now India’s 2nd Largest Renewable Energy Technology

Solar power has overtaken biomass-based power generation to become India’s 2nd largest renewable energy technology in terms of installed capacity.

According to the latest data issued by the Indian Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, solar power’s installed capacity stood at 4,579 MW on 31 October, while biomass-based power generation capacity stood at 4,550 MW.

The outlook for India’s power sector remains negative due to evident structural challenges, Moody’s Investors Service said on Thursday, while assigning a stable outlook for the power sector in the Asia Pacific, except Japan.

Government released draft notification for Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) in textile industry

The government of India has issued a draft notification to control the massive pollution caused by the textile industry. It has directed the industry players to adhere to the 'Zero Liquid Discharge' (ZLD) norms which make it mandatory for them to recycle all effluents released by the factories.

World's richest 10% produce 50% of CO2: Report

The richest 10 % of people produce half of the Earth's carbon emissions, while the poorest half-most threatened by droughts and super stroms linked to climate change--contribute a mere 10%, British charity Oxfam said in a study released on Wednesday.

India promises 33% cut in carbon emissions by 2030

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi today promised to cut carbon emissions by 33 percent by 2030.

“By 2030, we will reduce carbon emissions intensity per unit GDP by 33-35 percent of 2005 levels, and 40 percent of our installed capacity will be from non- fossil fuels,” Modi said at the Paris Climate Meet in Paris, France.

“We will achieve 33 percent reduction in carbon emissions by expanding renewable energy by adding 175 GW of renewable generation by 2022. We will enlarge our forest cover to absorb at least 2.5 billion tons worth of carbon dioxide,” said Modi.

GERMI to train youth for rooftop solar installation

Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) is conducting the first training of trainers programme for rooftop solar photovoltaic installers at Gandhinagar.

The 12-day programme, scheduled from November 30 to December 11 2015, would focus on developing teaching capacity of the instructors of rooftop solar installers.
